Yard Safety Officer (Senior)

We are looking for a Yard Safety Officer (Senior) to join our dynamic fabrication site in Heijningen, the Netherlands. The Yard Safety Officer is the primary contact for all QHSE matters on site and ensures that all activities are carried out in accordance with the company safety policies and procedures. As a Safety Officer, you will be part of the Site Support Team consisting of six professionals.

We are looking for a go-getter who feels a large responsibility to bring the safety of our site to a higher level. We are looking for a doer and pragmatist with a strong sense of responsibility who is able to put our safety plan into action.

The ideal candidate will have worked as a safety officer on busy yards or construction sites and possess excellent communication skills. We are looking for someone who can work independently, bring people together, has a helicopter view and who is accessible to employees at all levels across the organisation. MVK/HVK, NEBOSH certification or equivalent is expected.

Your role

• Promote HSE awareness and co-ordinate safety training for all personnel on the yard
• Act as lead in work risk assessments and incident investigation
• Investigate and report unsafe acts, unsafe conditions, near misses and incidents
• Issue Permits to Work and verify implementation of the permit at the workplace
• Assist in implementation and compliance with company emergency services (BHV)
• Act as Dangerous Goods Safety Advisor (Veiligheidsadviseur Vervoer Gevaarlijke Stoffen (ADR))
• Monitor storage and handling of dangerous goods and waste
• Organise and chair monthly safety meetings
• Provide all new personnel and visitors with Basic Safety Induction
• Carry out daily rounds and maintain a log with findings if applicable

What we expect from you

• MBO technical degree
• Hogere Veiligheidskunde (HVK) or Middelbare Veiligheidskunde (MVK) plus relevant work experience
• Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Safety Officer on yards, construction sites or in an offshore environment
• Good command of Dutch and English, both written and spoken
