Assignment: Research toolchains for electronic design to 3D CAD models.

We are searching for students to work alongside our R&D team in Eindhoven to provide technical and analytical assistance with research into a toolchain for integrating electrical schematics into mechanical 3D models.

Validating the routing of cables and wire harnesses in mechanical 3D models greatly improves the manufacturability and serviceability. Automatically extracting this information from the electrical schematic reduces the risk of mistakes. Both one of the various third party tools available from different suppliers, and bespoke tools using the available APIs in EPLAN and Inventor, could provide a solution.

Your role

• Research and explore tools for integrating electrical schematics into mechanical 3D models
• Research and explore the capabilities of available tool APIs
• Implement a proof of concept (automated) toolchain from EPLAN Electric P8 to Inventor CAD models

What we expect from you

• B.Eng., BSc or MSc student with a background in electrical or mechanical engineering or equivalent
• Self-critical and self-correcting
• Eagerness to learn, try, fail and explore
• Team player in a multidisciplinary environment
• Affinity with process optimisation
• Good command of the English language, both written and spoken

Beneficial experience

• Inventor CAD, SolidWorks or equivalent
• EPLAN Electric P8
