Our single-lift technology will play a key role in offshore wind projects. In addition to fast and efficient transport and installation solutions for large offshore substations, we are pioneering new concepts for the next generation wind turbines required to meet growing demand for offshore renewable energy.
2021 was a breakthrough year for Allseas in the fast-growing offshore wind market, strengthening our ambition to become a key contractor in the offshore renewables space.
We showcased our incredible transport and installation speeds for major wind projects in the Bay of Biscay and the North Sea, developments that will meet the future energy needs of hundreds of thousands of homes.
We install all types of offshore facilities in all water depths and all environments. Our experience and expertise in heavy lift, subsea construction and pipelay is invaluable for the installation of offshore wind farms as we work towards a more efficient, diversified and sustainable energy sector.
We see a key future role for Pioneering Spirit in the installation of next generation turbines and foundations. Turbine market installation is set for sustained growth for the next 30 years in all three major sectors: North America, Europe and the Far East. Turbine sizes are expected to grow from 10 MW generated capacity per turbine to up to 20 MW within 8 years.
A dedicated engineering team is working on several concepts that adapt our single-lift capability for transport and installation of the largest next generation turbines. Our ideas apply a pipelay “production line” mentality to installation and compatible with turbines from all major suppliers. This production line approach has the potential to cut installation times to half of what standard turbine installation vessels can do.
Comprehensive workability studies also show that a typical installation season for Pioneering Spirit would far exceed regular floating and jack-up vessels, particularly in the roughest winter months.
Pioneering Spirit’s size offers greater lift and transport capacity, resulting in shorter installation campaigns. Greater size and versatility makes our operations less weather sensitive, meaning high workability and uninterrupted installation campaigns. This delivers significant cost and efficiency savings, fast tracking the development cycle and enabling our clients to realise their project ambitions sooner.
The combination of unprecedented size and versatility, our installation and subsea capabilities, dynamically operated vessels together with our project management and engineering skills, uniquely positions Allseas for this rapidly growing market.
