Beta transformer topsides installed

Energy produced by North Sea wind turbines will power thousands of more Dutch homes after the safe and speedy installation by Pioneering Spirit  of a second offshore substation for the Hollandse Kust (zuid) development.

Only 3 days between loading the Beta topsides on board Pioneering Spirit  in Rotterdam to finalising the set down and welding onto the jacket.

Great achievement of all our crew in what is record lift season for the world’s largest and most versatile construction vessel.

The installation of the Beta topsides is another significant milestone in the delivery of a strategically important energy project for the Netherlands. It follows installation of the sister topsides, Alpha, by Pioneering Spirit  last December.

Located 20 km off the coast of The Hague, Alpha is the first connection of an offshore wind farm to Rotterdam’s Maasvlakte, with a capacity of 700 MW. The energisation of Beta later this year will inject a further 700 MW of clean electricity into the Dutch grid.
