Internship - Mattress loading plan generator

Internship - Mattress loading plan generator

To stay ahead of the industry, we are developing tomorrow’s technology today, transforming bold ideas into state-of-the-art solutions to meet the market’s ever changing needs. Do you trust your own vision and have the courage to pursue it? Then join the thinkers, leaders and visionaries at Allseas!

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated student with a computational science background to join our highly skilled, multidisciplinary Innovations Department in Delft, the Netherlands. In this role, you will help to optimise a MATLAB code that automatically generates mattress loading plans for our multi-purpose support vessel Calamity Jane.

This challenging graduation assignment offers the chance to gain invaluable hands-on experience while working alongside some of the brightest minds in the industry.

Your role

In the offshore industry last-minute changes are common and need to be resolved quickly since operational delays can prove costly. The main challenge to operators is to implement last-minute changes efficiently and safely. By using computational technology the working process can be accelerated.

The main goal of this internship assignment is to improve our existing “mattress loading plan generator” MATLAB program for Calamity Jane. She assists Allseas’ pipelay vessels with activities such as pre- and post-lay route survey, mattress installation for pipeline crossing construction and pipeline trenching. Calamity Jane is able to install concrete mattresses and other structures using a remotely-controlled subsea installation frame in combination with a special purpose built lifting device, or an ROV-operated mattress installation frame in combination with a 60 mT active heave compensated knuckle boom crane.

You will learn about mattress installation operations and become familiar with the code and MATLAB optimisation toolbox. You will assist our engineers to improve the run time, increase functionality and further develop the code to prepare it for the future use. To achieve this, you will work together with experienced R&D Engineers in the office and the Field Engineers on board Calamity Jane.

What we expect from you

We are looking for a student with a strong background in mathematics, physics, computational science and an affinity for offshore applications. Experience with the MATLAB optimisation toolbox is a benefit. Further requirements:

  • BSc degree
  • MSc student in Mathematics, Physics or Computational Sciences
  • Good command of English

Interested? This graduation assignment has a minimum duration of 3 months.
